Text Theft
It’s impossible to prevent determined visitors from copying your website text. However, we include features to discourage that practice by making it much more difficult.
You can allow people to copy your website text or you can apply one of several restrictions to any page or all pages on your website. Those restrictions are Copy Allowed with Citation, Copy Allowed with Warning, Copy Prevented with Warning, and Copy Disabled.
Copy Allowed with Citation
With Copy Allowed with Citation enabled, visitors can select and copy text, but when a visitor pastes the text from their clipboard, the copied text is surrounded by quotation mark symbols and citation information identifying your studio as the source of that content.
Copy Allowed with Warning
With Copy Allowed with Warning enabled, visitors can copy text, but they’re presented with a pop-up warning.
The warning text states, “The information you have attempted to copy is protected by International and Federal Copyright Laws and Treaties. Any unauthorized use of this copyrighted material is strictly prohibited.”
You can edit the warning text if desired.
Copy Prevented with Warning
With Copy Prevented with Warning enabled, visitors can select text and select the copy option, but a pop-up warning is displayed.
The default text for the pop-up warning is “The information you have attempted to copy is protected by International and Federal Copyright Laws and Treaties. Any unauthorized use of this copyrighted material is strictly prohibited.” The text that was selected by the visitor is not copied and is not available in memory.
You can edit the warning text if desired.
Copy Disabled
The Copy Disabled option indicates that visitors are prevented from selecting or copying text.
